Another step closer…
January 27th, 2008For those of you who used to visit my Volvo blog, you notice that things have changed. I decided to separate my writing from my Volvo diary. Now, this page will be solely dedicated in my quest to reach that million mile mileage point. Although Volvo no longer issues the medallions for the grilles of the Volvos (zut! zut alors!), I still strive for the day when I will pull over to the side of the highway (5th Avenue? Zakim Bridge in Boston? my driveway?) to shout to the world, “SEE?! I DID MAKE IT TO A MILLION! MY BABY MADE IT TO A MILLION YOU FOOLS! I LOVE MY VOLVO!”
Yes, some people love going to the beach. Others are enthusiastic about skiing or the Red Sox. Me? My Volvo. Other Volvos come in second. My blessed Volvo is my solace, letting me blow off steam when my day is totally in the bucket and I need to clear my head. When I’m so tired from grad school, teaching, and volunteering, I jump in the Volvo and off to coffee I go. It’s the Volvo that’s my escape pod. All is well with the world once I’m in the Swede mobile.
Today after church I hit another milestone. We are one step closer. We hit 85,000 miles! Here are the specifics:
When: Around 9:45 AM.
Where: Exactly at the intersection of Davis and North. Riding from breakfast with mom and dad (four cups of coffee) to go to Starbucks to get a latte.
Listening to: You Don’t Know by The Indefinite Article
Who: Just me in the car. But I shared the joy with a painter who saw me taking photos in the car. I had to explain it to him in Starbucks, as the looks he was giving me were really strange. It was pretty funny. Once he heard my enthusiasm, he understood. The baristas understood. Baristas are cool. They rock.
How: Driving in snow. How could it be any better? And the roads were kind of slick. PERFECT Volvo driving weather. The best. Bring it! Volvo should have had a camera in the car for an ad. Nah, that would have been a bad idea. No one would have bought a new Volvo. They would have invested in their old ones. Old Volvos are gold.
Off for more miles. More and more miles to go before I sleep!
